So much to process.
Wow. So much has happened since my last post. I'm honestly still attempting to process it all. About a week and a half ago my computer went completely dead. I've had problems with it for a while, but the fact that it died so suddenly was...an inconvenience to put it nicely. It was hard to deal with and for the first week or so I would just get mad when I thought about it. Why now? Why this? Come on God. This is the worst timing possible. As time progressed, I thought about it. It's not the end of the world. There are other computers that I can use. The computer labs are available. Yes, I'll be off campus. Yes it will be extremely inconvenient. But God provides. I also had multiple people offer their old or unused computers to me. Praise God for friends. I am currently borrowing a Netbook. It's been hard for me to adjust to the small screen and keyboard, but I think i'm used to it by now. Not to mention I am able to use it for free and as long as I need to. Thank you Connis's!
My dad and Lisa came to visit last week. They originally planned on staying for a day and a half, but plans changed and they were only able to visit for a few hours. I was disappointed, but at least I got to see my dad for the first time since New Years.
I was recently talking to a friend that still lives at home, and she said she couldn't imagine being away from her parents for more than a few days. Thinking about it later got me to thinking about how different things are and how grown up I guess I am. Sometimes I don't even realize how much of an adult I am now. Twenty-one years old. Going to college. Living off campus. A Senior. In charge of yet another club back on campus.
Let me just take a minute to rant. A SENIOR!? How the hell am I this old? When I was little I called people my age adults. People my age seemed to be as mature as my parents. Even as a freshman I thought the seniors knew everything there was to know about, well, everything. Holy smokes. Crazy.
Anyways. I digress. In July we signed the lease for our new apartment. It has been christened Mount Olympus. Because, of course, we are gods among men. The house is great. Three and a half levels of awesomeness.
The top floor has a bedroom, a bathroom, and a closet. It also has a balcony. The middle level[s] are as follows. The front door opens to the kitchen. It's a good sized kitchen, plenty big enough for four guys. Let's be honest, anything beats the student apartment where it's cramped when you have three people in the kitchen and you aren't really able to move around each other to get to the pantry. We have a real sized fridge, a real sized oven and a dishwasher! Then there are six steps that lead down to the living room that has a fire place, a couch, and two chairs. It also opens up to a porch perfect for drinking a beer or some coffee on those Autumn nights, of course the beer only when off contract. It's perfect for the four of us. The bottom floor belongs to Grady and I. We have a bathroom, and a walk-in closet that's just big enough for both of us. We also have a door that opens to the back yard. Which is pretty great. Not really any grass to speak of, but whatever. I'm so excited to get everything completely unpacked and situated. This house can't possibly be a bad experience. Living with Neil, Sam, and Grady is guaranteed to be a good time.
Yesterday was Sunday. I woke up and began cleaning the student apartment right away. Packed my car with my remaining clothes, and random food assortment. Sam and I checked out at around 4, right after helping some friends load a gigantic tv into their truck. Then Sam, Neil and I all unloaded our stuff at Mt Olympus and that took pretty much the rest of the afternoon. Grady already had his stuff there. After loading blankets on my bed-frame [which still lacks a mattress in case you were wondering] and attempting to convince myself that "It looks just as good and comfortable as a bed" I resigned myself that I couldn't completely miss the closing ceremonies to the Olympics. So I went over to the Connis house and was fed a delicious dinner along with tea and coffee cake. Clara also graciously let me borrow their Netbook that was apparently just sitting around. That is what I'm typing on currently. I then proceeded to Mount Olympus and watched Hellboy with the roommates, and after we stayed up just talking until all hours of the night. What a way to begin the week.
Last Friday was my last day of working on Grounds for the summer. I joked that even the weather was depressed that it was my last day. The whole day was cloudy, foggy, and overcast. The day went by fast, but i'm glad it did. Summer has flown by. It seems like just a few days ago I was saying goodbye to everyone that was leaving and I was moving off Catacombs in one of the most heart-wrenching moves I have yet witnessed. And now everyone comes back next week. Wow. My, how things have flown by.
Saturday, April, Grady and I went to Blue-Hole. SO stinking much fun. Even though we got attacked by Yellow Jackets, saw snakes, and giant spiders and almost died when getting swept down a river that was too fast to cross. Lessons learned. Fun was had. It was totally worth it. Probably the worst part of it was yesterday when a giant fire ant bit me right on one of the spots I was stung by a yellow jacket. My leg has never been this itchy before in my entire life. But, like I said. It was totally worth getting cut, scratched, and battered by the bushes and rocks. I couldn't have enjoyed it any more.
This week I am getting things situated in the new place, getting some school things taken care of, and resting up before classes start next week. I sure hope I'm ready to get back in the swing of things. I think I am. We will see.
Last night was the first night in the new apt. It was hard to make myself believe that the blankets piled on the slats were as comfortable as a bed...mainly because they weren't. I'm still trying to figure out if I actually fell asleep or just laid there all night. I honestly don't know. I feel just as tired as I did when I went to bed, but maybe that's just because I've been going non-stop for the whole summer and it's finally catching up to me. I'm more inclined to believe that's the case.
I feel so blessed.
There are many other things that have happened recently, but those are stories for another time. This post is already overly long. Until next time, friends. I bid you farewell.
